Giclee Limited Edition Reproduction created with Archival inks and printed on Archival fine art paper.
I found this gray horse and rider at a three day event on my first visit to the Kentucky Horse Park. They were competing during the stadium jumping phase, and I was attracted to the scope of the horse as he easily cleared this oxer jump.
It was a gray day with off and on drizzle which made for very flat lighting in my reference photograph. My challenge in the painting was to convert the grayness to a sunny day and also create a more pleasing background. The big tree was a bonus element in the painting.
This is my first attempt at a full landscape in pastel. For the time, it was an accomplishment and because of that it holds a special place in my heart.
